Our Nantahala Family Adventure is the most family-friendly whitewater rafting trip on the Nantahala River!
This whitewater rafting trip is designed specifically for families with pre-teens and young teens. It goes down the popular Nantahala River. Minimum age is age 7. Kids age 7 to 10 should be adventurous and active for this trip. Age 11 & up usually do good on this trip, unless someone is apprehensive about rafting. Kids age 7 to 10 who are not active and adventurous usually do better on our Ultimate Kids Rafting Trip.

The Nantahala River has more rapids than the Tuck and they are bigger rapids. It's also a cooler river, but it is still family-friendly. It's great for older beginners and families with more adventurous kids. You get our family-friendly guides and raft at a family pace.

Guides - This trip is guide-assisted rafting. Guides are along, nearby, and always on the river with you, but they are not in every raft. This works for many people. In a our smaller rafts, you need one person to steer and paddle in the back. And, you need at least one other paddler. Everyone gets a paddle and most kids do help paddle the boat. If you are uncomfortable without a guide in your boat, then you can pay extra to guarantee a guide in your boat.
Guide in Boat - You can pay $9/person extra (minimum $45) to guarantee a guide in your boat.

We operate on the Nantahala River under a "Special Use Permit" from the U.S. Forest Service. Kids must be at least 60 pounds or at least seven years old.
How long does it take?
You are on the river for about 2 1/2 hours. There is additional time for a Safety Briefing, getting outfitted, shuttle etc. Total time here is usually about 3 1/2 hours.
