Take Your Kids Camping – A Great Family Adventure!

Stay at our campground at our Nantahala Outpost.  It is convenient, comfortable, and clean. Located in the Nantahala Gorge, it strikes a good balance between secluded and convenient.

A note about lodging in the NC Mountains: There are hundreds of great places to stay in our area. And, there are many great full service campgrounds.  Our campground is not for everyone. Click here to get a copy of our lodging list for other options.

Our campground works great for three types of people:

  1. Experienced campers who are bringing their own tent and want to spend a night or two while they raft. You can use our inexpensive open field camping.
  2. Experienced campers who don’t want to hassle with their tent, but can handle everything else. They can use one of our tents that we already have set up. This convenience cost a little more than open field camping.
  3. Apprehensive Campers can use our “Take Your Kids Camping.” It is specifically designed for those who aren’t really comfortable or experienced camping, but want to let their kids experience the unique adventure of camping at least once. Our camping guides are always on the campground with you and available for routine and non-routine needs. They assist you with most aspects of camping, including getting the campfire going. You’ll use one of our tents that is already set-up. You and your kids enjoy the fun and unique adventure of camping with out all the hassles of setting up and without the fears and frustrations common to beginning campers going it alone. Click here for details.

Our campground is close and convenient if you are rafting with us. Our campground is located at our Nantahala Outpost. It’s 25 minutes from our Tuck Outpost.

Our campground is not for long-term camping. Campers generally stay one to three nights. It is not a full service campground. There is no electricity at campsites. We do have hot showers and bathrooms.

Camping Cost

Open Field Camping $6.00 per person
Use our Pre-Set-Up Tents $9.50 per person (We have a limited number of pre-set-up tents.)

Ultimate Tuck – 11AM all season
The Ultimate Nantahala – June 10 – Labor Day 9:45AM

Ultimate Trip Cost        Age 15 & up   -  $41 per person
                                  Under Age 15  - $31 per person

What about older kids?  Over the years, we have taken hundreds of older kids on our trips. Most are rafting with us because they have a younger brother or sister that's rafting with us. Older kids almost always have a great time on our trips. Yes, they can do bigger white water. Before the trip, they are concerned that they'll be bored. They never are. On the trip, they realize it's fun for everyone. They can be (and usually are) more playful than the younger kids. One or two person Duckys can be a great option for older kids. They add adventure and independence to the trip for them.

Super Splash Tuck and Super Splash Nantahala

Run the same fun and exciting stretch of river, just later in the day.  These trips cost less. Trip size is usually larger. There are fewer guides per guest. And, weather often clouds up, with an increased chance of a rain shower in the afternoon.

This is usually not a problem for the more adventurous; but if you have younger kids, beginners, or anyone who is a little apprehensive, then one of our Ultimate trips is recommended.

You get our “Make Up Trip Guarantee” with our “Super Splash.” If you don’t have a fun time rafting with your group or family, you can raft with again for free.
